Praise
Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
How often have we treated praising the Lord as something that we can choose to do or choose not to do?
Looking at the above scripture, it is clear that praising the Lord is a command given to all that has breath. Which makes praising the Lord an act of obedience and not doing so an act of disobedience. Obeying any commandment given by God is a sign of our love to the Lord.
Jesus says in John 14:15, if you love me keep my command.
With or without this commandment, i believe we all have a reason to praise God without anyone asking us to do so. No matter what is going on in our lives, our God is always worthy of praise (psalms 18:3). We are to praise Him for who He is and the wonder of His creation. We are to praise Him for His great and mighty power. Every day when we wake up, we are to praise and thank Him for the gift of life, for the air we breathe, for the sun that gives us light by day and moon that shines by night. When we think of all the things that came to destroy us but God gave us the victory over them, we ought lift up our hands and praise Him. All we need is a flash back, and we will find a reason to praise Him.
What i love about praise is that, it invites God in the scene. It's like with our praise we build a room for God to come and live in. Isn't that beautiful? Psalm 22:3 says, but thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. God lives in the praises of His people. And where ever God is, His spirit is. Where His Spirit is, there is liberty, fullness of joy and we are refreshed.
From the Hebrew word we get 3 understanding of praise.
1: Yadah. meaning give thanks or confess of the good deed.
2: Zamar. Sing praise
3: Halal (where hallelujah comes) meaning to praise, honour or commend
Simply put, praise is an outward expression of an inward gratitude, thankfulness and honour towards God for all that He has done and is to do.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord in Christ Jesus name.
